SUMMARY

The public hospital is the great receiver par excellence in what refers to traumatized, but that excellence seems to fade in the face of poor building conditions and inefficient processes, product, perhaps, of the imposing current message that states that public health should be only for the destitute, acting as a destitute hospital in itself.

This research addresses the efficiency analysis of this nonprofit entity of the public health sector based on indicators as a useful management tool. It was determined that the result of the activity of the public hospital as a nonprofit entity is not usually a tangible output, but the fulfillment of some objectives in the provision of a set of services to the community. Their contribution to social welfare would be the ultimate point of reference to guide the allocation of resources to meet the needs of the population.

The objective of this work is to develop management indicators from an internal and external perspective that will allow the achievement and monitoring of the strategy, and as a consequence, improve the health service. This matrix of indicators will allow to present the reality of the institution at a specific moment.

This article presents specific indicators of hospital management related to the hospitalization area, as an integral part of the scorecard developed.
